Bathroom done. Best price out of a few quotes and they spent a lot of time doing it right. Would definitely recommend. Cant go wrong.

Stephen Ayme, Google review

So I just had these guys do a full reno on my multifamily in Derby, two kitchens and two bathrooms, and honestly I'm still kind of amazed it only took five weeks. … What I really liked though was how easy they were to deal with the whole time, they kept me updated, stayed on schedule, and there weren't any random extra charges thrown at me last minute like you sometimes get with contractors. Price was really fair too for everything that got done.

This is the 2nd job we have had EZEFix do for us, we couldn’t be happier! They are kind, hard workers who never fail to show up and get the job done!

Paint only looks as good as the wall under it. EZEfix & Renovations paints interiors and exteriors, removes and hangs wallpaper, and installs, finishes and repairs drywall across Fairfield and New Haven Counties, Connecticut. The patching, sanding and priming happen before the first coat, because that is the part that shows when the light hits the wall. We are still adding photos from recent painting projects; browse the gallery in the meantime to see the finish and detail we bring to every job.

What we paint, hang, finish and repair

12 services, and the prep comes before the paint on every one.

Interior Wall Painting

Floors, trim and fixtures are masked, nail holes are filled and the patches sanded smooth, and bare board, repairs and dark colors are primed first, because paint alone flashes over those spots and reads uneven when the light moves. Cut lines are brushed at ceilings, corners and trim, and the walls are rolled in two full coats with the recoat time the paint calls for between them. You choose the colors.

Ceiling Painting

Floors and furniture are covered completely, because a roller overhead drops a fine mist on everything below it. Water stains, smoke and patches are sealed with a stain-blocking primer so a brown ring does not bleed back through, then the ceiling is rolled in two coats of flat paint, each kept wet edge to edge so no lap marks show.

Trim, Baseboard & Casing Painting

Nail holes are filled and the joints where trim meets wall and floor are caulked, so the paint line reads straight instead of following every gap. The profiles are sanded to break the old sheen, then finished in two coats of trim enamel cut in by hand against the wall and the floor, which leaves a sharper line than tape.

Door Painting

The hardware comes off rather than getting taped around, so the finish runs clean to the edges. The door is cleaned and sanded, then the panels, stiles and rails are coated in the order that keeps brush marks running with the grain. Both faces and all four edges get two coats, including the top and bottom, so the door does not take on moisture and swell.

Exterior Painting

Siding, trim, doors and railings washed, scraped where the old paint has let go, caulked at the joints and spot-primed before two finish coats go on. Plants, walks and fixtures are covered while we work. Exterior painting is scheduled around the weather, because paint put on damp wood or at the wrong temperature fails early.

Deck Staining & Painting

A deck, its railings and its steps finished to show the wood or to match the house: a penetrating stain that lets the grain read through, or a solid color that covers it. The boards are cleaned and sanded where the old finish has let go, and the new one goes on only when the wood is dry, which for new pressure-treated lumber means waiting. Soft or split boards are replaced first, and that work is on the deck page. See Deck Building

Wallpaper Removal

Floors and trim are protected, the paper is scored where it needs it, and stripping solution is worked in so it releases without gouging the wall. Every trace of paste is washed off afterward, because adhesive left behind lifts the new paint. Paper that was painted over, hung in layers or put straight onto unprimed drywall takes several passes and usually needs a skim coat after.

Wallpaper Installation

Walls are repaired, smoothed and primed first, because wallpaper shows every bump and will not hold on bare drywall. The room is measured so the pattern lands where the eye goes, seams are kept away from the corners people look at, and each strip is hung plumb, matched at the seam and trimmed tight at the ceiling, the trim and the outlets.

Drywall Installation

Board is measured and cut so the seams land on framing and stagger from row to row, which keeps a crack from running along one line. Ceilings are hung first and the walls held tight to them, with clean cuts around boxes, ducts and openings. Moisture-resistant board goes in bathrooms and laundry rooms. See Basement Finishing

Drywall Taping & Finishing

Every joint and inside corner is taped, then three coats go over the tape, the screw lines and the corner bead, each wider than the last and each dry before the next. The surface is sanded, wiped and checked with a light held against the wall. That is a Level 4 finish, the standard for flat paint.

Skim Coating (Level 5 Finish)

A thin coat over the whole wall, not only the joints, that hides old texture, roller stipple and the edges of past patches. It is the finish to ask for where the paint has a sheen, the color is deep, or light from a window runs along the wall, because all three show what a standard finish leaves behind. It is also the fix for walls left rough by wallpaper removal.

Drywall Patch & Repair

Nail pops, cracked corners, water-stained ceilings, doorknob holes and the openings left where fixtures came off. Each one is cut back to sound board, backed where it is larger than a few inches, filled with a setting compound that hardens instead of shrinking, and feathered wide enough to disappear under paint. Painting and drywall questions, answered

Finish levels, wallpaper, older homes and how we protect yours.

What is the difference between a Level 4 and a Level 5 drywall finish?

Level 4 is tape and three coats over the joints and screws, sanded smooth. It is the standard finish and it is right for flat paint. Level 5 adds a skim coat over the entire surface. Ask for it where the paint will have a sheen, the color is dark, or sunlight runs along the wall, because those conditions show the joints a Level 4 finish leaves faintly visible.

Can you remove wallpaper that has been painted over?

Yes, but it is slower and the wall rarely comes out clean. Painted paper has to be scored so the solution can reach the paste, and each layer comes off separately. Where paper was hung on drywall that was never primed, removal tears the face of the board no matter how carefully it is done. In both cases we plan on a skim coat afterward and tell you that before we start, not after.

My house was built before 1978. Can you still do the work?

It depends on the work. EZEfix & Renovations is not an EPA lead-safe certified firm. In a home built before 1978, work that disturbs old painted surfaces, such as sanding, scraping or cutting into walls and ceilings, has to be done by a certified renovation contractor, and we refer that part of the job to one. Tell us the year the house was built when you call, and we will tell you plainly what we can take on.

Do you paint kitchen cabinets and decks?

Both. Deck staining and painting is one of the services on this page, and the rest of the deck work, from replacing boards to a new build, is on our Deck Building page. Cabinet refinishing and painting is on our Kitchen Remodel page and is coordinated with a cabinet finishing specialist.

How do you protect the house while you work?

Every quote includes our clean and protected job site guarantee. Floors are covered, doorways are sealed with plastic where sanding makes dust, furniture that cannot be moved is wrapped, and the work area is cleaned at the end of each day. When the job is finished we walk the rooms with you and fix anything you point out before we leave.
